A charter of our individual rights to “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Apt time to re-look at this, right? The Declaration of Independence established the United States as a sovereign nation, breaking away from Great Britain, and setting forth the radical idea that governments derive their power from the consent of the governed.

It detailed 27 specific complaints against King George III to prove to the colonists and the watching world that the rebellion was driven by tyranny, not impulsive lawlessness.
