When we say Fair Trade, we mean it!
We found our silk scarf supplier in a market in Thailand while we were visiting. We met the whole family, and learned about the way their silk was made. It's an art, not a science, so dye lots will vary, but the colors are always vibrant and beautiful.
Our silk scarves are handwoven in Thailand from the silk of the Bombyx Mori, the domesticated silk worm. It is entirely dependent on humans for its reproduction and no longer occurs naturally in the wild.
"Fair Trade" creates relationships between producers, traders and consumers in a manner that ensures that goods producers work in safe conditions, are paid fair wages, and are mindful of the environment. Fair Trade sourced products contribute to sustainable development by offering better conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers especially in exports from developing countries to developed countries. We're proud to have personally assured that this is the case with our scarves.
